Blogging Is Not An Easy Task

Protecting of the blog is not an easy task. All those hard tasks are comes to the game if you’re not familiar with them. I think you got the my point.  Protecting the blog from Spammers is not a very hard thing when you’re familiar with it. But dealing with spammers is somewhat boring thing. I’ll say why is that boring for me later in this post. Those spammers trying to get links to their sites. If you’re allowing to spammers do what they want. It will put you in a risk of penalized!!

The Spam Story 

You know I started this blog few weeks ago and tomorrow will be the 6th Week of the blog. As you know blog turned to 1month old on April 19th. That means 4 weeks and 1 day. In the first 2 weeks I didn’t got much comments. Yeah, it’s just 2 weeks only, So How is it going to get much visitors from Search Engines?Damn!! I started to get comments at the end of the 2nd week saying “I found your blog thru Google, Bing or Yahoo”. Firstly there were only a few of those kind spam comments, But at the middle of 3rd week the number of spam comments started to rise. I can happily say, All those comments are caught in the Spam Box. See the image below.

This is my up to date Total Stat in Akismet Plugin which I used to kill the spammers in their neck!.  Look total number of Spams I got up to now(24.04.2012) is 383. That’s so bad. Within the first month I got 383 Spams. Now I’m getting around 20 such Spam Comments and all are ended in Spam Box thanks to the Akismet Plugin.

Then what is this ‘Ham’ means here? Ham is simply non-spam comments. So Ham can be known as good, correct, valuable comment. According to Akismet, They do catch non-spam comments as Spams VERY RARELY.! I mean very rarely. Then how is this Ham number got 80? Is that your question?

Yeah, This is how it happened. Akismet knows the bad behaviors of spammers and their spamming styles too. I said Spam Comments are started to caught in  Spam Box at the end of 2nd week. So I thought those are good comments(I felt like that!) and published some of them. Then the ‘Ham’ number increased to 80. So the accuracy in the screenshot is also wrong a bit. If all those Published Spam comments also deleted, then the accuracy must be passed at least 98%. See the below image to get how Spammers started their work deeply!

March which is the launching month I got only 17 spams, but in April I got over 360 Spams. I learned much about them.

The Spammers Behavior

If you are blogging for a while, definitely you have some idea about this. Below are three comments I get everyday. I think they haven’t brains to understand this.

I get large number of that type comments. Some comments are in my mind coz everyday those idiots do spams. Below are some of behaviors of Spammers.

• They sometimes paste the same comment or write the same thing like robots.
• They always link to inner pages.

This is not a very straight behavior, Because in the blog commenting using inner pages of  the blog is a good practice. In my case, Spammers used their sites to comment. And inner pages of their sites.

• They use keywords in the name field.

This time it’s not one Keyword, but all of their keywords. If they use like this it’s directly a Spam. Example :

online money, emoney, imarketing, internet money, online jobs

There are so many such behaviors. I don’t mention all of them ‘coz If I do this post won’t be short and sweet. And another reason is Spammers may adapt to those and spam using new techniques.

The Killer Of The Spammers

I think you know what I’m going to talk about. Yeah I’m going to tell you the killer. Killer is the Akistmet as you assumed. This is the best Spam-Detecting Plugin in the world.

Above image is the Homepage of Akismet.com There’s a number which is continuously increasing. That’s the number of Total Spams. I believe that number should be increase like that. because spammers all around the world do this damn Spamming.

The Akistmet Plugin is designed by Automattic Company. They are the creator of the world most popular blogging platform WordPress. When someone commented on your blog it’s first send to Akismet server and it does various kind of tests over 100. Then reply to your blog whether it’s a Spam or a Ham!.

As I said Akismet do over 100 tests to identify Spams. So Spams never gonna be Hams. If it occurs that’s rarely. These 100 tests include every point of a spammer. They don’t reveal it, because you know why!. Another good of Akismet is it test Trackbacks and Pingbacks too. So you don’t want to offer a link to crappy spammers. If one comment in the spam box, You must check that comment again before hitting Un-Spam, because Akismet put it in Spam Box for a reason not for funny Joke. I think you understand it on the dot.

The Akismet technology is updating real-time So you don’t want to make any doubts about Spam in the future too. This plugin is developed to 20 other platforms too. But that list does not include most famous beginner blogging platform Blogspot!. There’s a Free version of this service(I’m using it) but buying a paid version is good and a mode of returning the favor.

To use the Akismet free version just signup in Akismet.com and get a free API key and set up it in the Akismet Plugin which is already installed with WordPress. Then you are ready to GO!

Why They Spam?

Did you think about this? Why they became spammers? Ya it also has a reason as every other question. They are the bad guys who get their things anyhow. But all their endeavors are always flowing on the sea. Because the good guys limit their actions smarter than spammers’ technique.

Getting Backlinks, Cheating in SERPs

All spammers first hope is to get lot of links to their sites and blogs. So they are trying to get it anyhow. Then they write spam comments using some bot or them self.

Give Publicity to dark sides of the Internet

I mean the dark side. All the illegal, porn things come in that side. You know Google and other search engines not giving much value to those sites. So they are trying to be popular by making inscriptions everywhere.

Not a Real Blogger

This cause is a common one. But not bad as other Real Spammers. These people don’t know what to do and how to do. So they do what they think is correct.
